WEG 2010 Eventing: The US & CAN Selections, Finally!

Kim Severson | Off To WEG
After something that looked nothing like a selection trial at the US national championships last weekend, the American eventing selections for the World Equestrian Games has finally been announced, and there really are few surprises - the two Australians, the two stalwarts, the two tough greys.

They are:

Philip Dutton - Woodburn (T)
Boyd Martin - Neville Bardos (T)
Buck Davidson - Ballynoe Castle (T)
Karen O'Connor - Mandiba
Kim Severson - Tippery Laidhnan (T)
Becky Holder - Courageous Comet

What is perhaps a little surprising is they have also announced which 4 of the 6 will be "team" members and which will be "individuals", perhaps they've already seen the WEG cross country course at Kentucky, other nations will undoubtedly wait until WEG week before deciding on the team members.

Hawley Bennet-Awad | Off To WEG
Meanwhile the news from the frozen north is that the Canadian team has also been announced. They are:

Selena O'Hanlon - Colombo
Steph Rhodes-Bosch - Port Authority
Rebecca Howard - Riddle Master
Kyle Carter - Madison Park
Jessica Phoenix - Exponential
Hawley Bennet-Awad - Gin & Juice

I don't think there is really much I can say about these selections that hasn't already been said. They are nothing you wouldn't have expected given the talent pools in north America, so I'll leave any gushing about these teams to my US counterparts, although I do remember being very impressed by Hawley Bennet-Awad at Badminton in 2007.

Now, I'm off to find my magic algorithm for predicting WEG Medals......

  1. Gin n Juice was really impressive around Rolex in the spring, and Hawley's husband gave black doggie Leo the best massage ever while waiting for her to show jump, so we definitely like them!

  2. Yes, they're a nice couple, I met them both when she rode Livingstone around Badminton.

That dog of yours is a real operator!
