Blenheim 2014: Friday - Dressage Day Two

Andrew Hoy & Cheeky Calimbo - Leaders After Dressage In The CCI***
The deck was was reshuffled throughout the second day of dressage, and Andrew Hoy came out on top with Cheeky Calimbo, a whisker ahead of Emily King. With 3 horses in the Top 10 including 3rd placed Fernhill Pimms, William Fox-Pitt could well pick up a good slice of the prize money.
Kitty King & Persimmon 6th on 38.2
I did manage to watch a few tests including two that made it into the top ten - Kitty King on Persimmon and Tim Price on Ringwood Sky Boy, both very polished.

Eventers' Challenge
It's very easy to get caught up in the excitement of the 2 main classes and forget there are several other competitions, side shows and demonstrations going on every day in two other arenas at Blenheim. When I arrived I started the Eventers' Challenge for riding clubs was underway. This is a mixture of show jumps and cross country fences in one arena with an optimum time. I watched a great little white pony fly round, but also saw several riders struggle to to even get their mounts over the first fence. Perhaps The filler, and it's position facing the tradestands was a little daunting for some of these horses, I'm not sure, but three horses in a row had an issue.
Brightwells Horse Auction At Blenheim
A first at Blenheim this year was the Brightwells auction of event horses held after the dressage. This was a fascinating affair and was well attended. Not every horse sold but I certainly saw a few that sold without 'bidding off the wall'.

Tomorrow is Cross Country Day for the CCI*** which starts at 9:30AM. Until then here are the important links and a few more of my photos:
